Multiple Sclerosis

Service-connected (SC) status refers to Veterans who are disabled by an injury or disease that was incurred or aggravated during active military service. MS is a presumptive condition and benefits are based on the presumption that the disability is service-connected (SC). Veterans with symptoms of MS in the military or within seven years after honorable discharge may be eligible for SC disability. Presumptive conditions mean that the MS disability is assumed to be service connected if certain conditions are met. Contrast this with a veteran needing to prove the basics of VA disability: a. proof of a disability; b. proof of a medical connection between the disability and an event or injury in service; and c. severity of the disability so that it warrants payment. A presumptive condition will render the process of obtaining benefits easier.
