How To Increase a VA Disability Rating

If you read our blog post on scheduled disability ratings and compensation, you know that disability ratings influence monthly disability compensation.

If you are unhappy with your disability rating, you may file a Notice of Disagreement with the VA. This review is limited to one year from the decision, however. If new evidence or new symptoms of disability and its interference on your career arise, you may file a claim to increase your rating.

The process of a new claim will be similar to that of your already-approved disability. Your evidence should include medical information and similar evidence forms used to attain the initial disability rating.

You should be aware, however, that if the VA has determined that your condition has actually improved, they have the authority to lower your rating.
