The 3 Requirements for Getting VA disability

In order for a veteran to get the benefits they deserve in the form of VA disability compensation the veteran must meet certain requirements. Here are the three main requirements (this is abbreviated for purposes of this post).

A. Current disability. This means that the veteran must have a current disability. It’s not enough, for example, to say that you suffer with back pain. That is a symptom. You need a diagnosed disability. This means that you must have a medical professional give you a diagnosis.

B. Service Connection. This means that the current disability you suffer with must be caused by an event or injury in service. This requires a medical opinion that your current disability is more likely than not caused by the event or injury.

C. Severity of symptoms. Even if you have both the current disability that is service connected the severity of the disability as determined by the symptoms is still required. This means that if your symptoms meet the VA regulations for disability then it must be serious enough to warrant compensation.

As you can see all three of these requirements hinge on the strength of your medical evidence. Without strong medical evidence you cannot win. To learn more about how to win the disability you deserve click the link to schedule an appointment with one of our Vet Defenders: Schedule an Appointment.
